Sustainability and Environment
Emission targets, pollution control consents and sustainability reports now carry figures that a regulator or a listed customer will test. We prepare the finance and record side: carbon credit accounting, BRSR data, consent and EPR records, and a review of energy cost.
Last reviewed 8 October 2026
A manufacturing unit now reports more than its profit. Emission intensity under the Carbon Credit Trading Scheme, quantities under extended producer responsibility and the capacity in a pollution control consent are all figures that a regulator can compare with production and sales records.
When those figures do not agree with the books, the consequence is a query from the board, a shortfall in credits that must be bought, or a sustainability report that an assurance provider cannot support. Our work for businesses in Nashik and elsewhere in Maharashtra prepares the finance and record side of these obligations from the same accounts and cost records that support the annual audit and tax returns.
Carbon credits
Indian Carbon Credit Trading Scheme
The Carbon Credit Trading Scheme, 2023 sets greenhouse gas emission intensity targets for obligated entities in notified sectors, and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency administers it. We check whether your unit is covered, and we build the production and energy data that the target is measured against.
Carbon credit registration and verification support
A project under the offset mechanism, or a unit that earns credits by beating its target, must present records that an accredited verification agency can trace. We prepare the financial and activity records and reconcile them with the books before verification.
Accounting for carbon credits
Credits held for sale, credits held to meet a target and the obligation itself are each treated differently in the accounts. We apply the ICAI Guidance Note on Accounting for Self-generated Certified Emission Reductions and the relevant Ind AS, and record the position in a note to the financial statements.
Tax on carbon credit income
Income from the transfer of carbon credits has a separate rate under the income-tax law. We work out the tax, the GST position on the sale and the documents that support both.
Environmental compliance records
Pollution control board consents
Consent to Establish and Consent to Operate from the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board are linked to capital investment and production capacity. We prepare the certified figures for the application, and track the renewal dates and fees in your compliance calendar.
Extended producer responsibility filings
Producers, importers and brand owners of plastic packaging, batteries, electronic goods and tyres must register on the Central Pollution Control Board portals and file annual returns. We reconcile the quantities declared with sales and purchase records, so that the return agrees with the books.
Environmental costs and provisions
Restoration obligations, consent fees and EPR certificate purchases are recorded as costs or provisions in the accounts, and we check that they are measured and disclosed correctly.
ESG reporting, BRSR and energy cost
Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report
SEBI requires the 1,000 largest listed companies by market capitalisation to include a Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report in the annual report. We collect the data, test it against the accounts and draft the report in SEBI's format.
BRSR Core and value chain data
Listed customers increasingly ask their suppliers for energy, water, waste and employment figures for the value chain disclosures. A supplier in Nashik can prepare that data once, from its own records, and supply it to each customer on request.
Readiness for assurance
Where BRSR Core figures must be assured, the assurance provider will ask for the source of each number. We set up the working papers and the controls over the data before the first assurance year.
Energy cost review
Power and fuel are often the second largest cost in a plant after material. We analyse electricity bills, tariff category, demand charges and power factor, and compare energy cost per unit of output across months and product lines.
For manufacturers
Emission intensity measured per unit of product
A target under the trading scheme is set as emissions per tonne of product. Production records and cost records must therefore agree with the energy data, and we reconcile all of them.
Consent capacity and actual production
Production above the capacity in the consent order can lead to action by the board. Monthly production figures are compared with the consented capacity and any gap is reported to you early.
Supplier questionnaires from listed customers
Automotive and engineering customers send sustainability questionnaires with their supplier audits. Answers are prepared from the same records used for your own reporting.
Rooftop solar and captive power
An investment in solar or captive power changes depreciation, tax, energy cost and emissions together. We prepare the figures for each before the decision is made.
How an engagement runs
Applicability review
We confirm which of the scheme, the consent conditions, the EPR rules and the SEBI requirements apply to your entity.
Data map
Each figure required is traced to a source record, and an owner is named for it inside your business.
Reconciliation with the books
Quantities and costs are agreed with the financial and cost records before any filing or report is prepared.
Filing and reporting
Returns, reports and accounting entries are prepared and filed within the due dates, and the working papers are kept for verification or assurance.

Common questions
Does the Carbon Credit Trading Scheme apply to my unit?
It applies to entities that the government has notified as obligated entities in specified sectors. A unit outside the notified list may still take part through the offset mechanism. We check the current notifications for your sector and your unit.
Is income from selling carbon credits taxed like business income?
The income-tax law has a separate provision for income from the transfer of carbon credits, with its own rate. The GST position on the sale should be examined at the same time.
Our company is not listed. Does BRSR concern us?
The SEBI requirement applies to listed companies. Unlisted suppliers to those companies are often asked for value chain data, and the information then has to come from their own records.
Do you obtain pollution control consents on our behalf?
Yes. The consent application and its renewals are prepared and filed for the unit, together with the financial figures, the certificates and the records on which the board relies. The capital investment of the unit, as stated in the application, is reconciled with the audited accounts before filing.
Where can I read the official rules?
The scheme is published by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, the BRSR requirements by SEBI and the EPR rules by the Central Pollution Control Board.
